Cape Verdes, April/May 2003

 

 

3 of our fishos took off a week from work to go game fishing in these islands about 600 miles west of Senegal.

 

Hans Steinbrecher, Erich Wiche and Robert Skala were in for a treat: In only five days of fishing, they had over 40 strike which they could convert into 17 tagged and released marlins - all above 200lbs -, and a blue grander taken to shore. 

 

The 1st of May 2003 will be the fishing day of his life for Robert. Fishing from the "Bibiche" with skipper Peter Döbler they were trolling 4 Konaheads as the fish of a lifetime stroke: A blue with 1034lbs!

 

The fish took line of the 130lbs outfit for 20 minutes, in which the Bibiche could hardly follow going full speed ahead. After these first 20 minutes the marlin lost his breath, and another 30 minutes of fight saw the fish next to the boat.

 

It took 7 men to get the beast into the boat... here a few pics:
